How to Dress Things Up and Down

Article by Caitlin Taylor

We all love getting more bang for our buck don't we? One of the keys to that when it comes to style, is buying pieces that have more versatility than your average item of clothing.

Something that you can dress up for work or occasions, and then dress down for weekends and casual catchups.

Part of it is in the piece itself, and part of it is in the pieces you put with it, so I've taken two current season pieces available now at Shore City, and shown you how to dress it up, and then how to dress it down with a few simple tricks.

Here we go!

1. The Feminine Frock

A dress can be a very versatile piece in your wardrobe if you want it to be! The key is in the fabric you choose. Look for something that isn't super-casual, but not too dressy either, so you can wear it in most situations. A good cotton jersey, or rayon/polyester blend is a good place to start.

So here's a gorgeous number from Max that's just hit the shelves, and some ideas on how to dress it up and down...

The Feminine Frock

THE DRESS: Max "Tania" Tie Waist Dress $119.99

DRESSED UP WITH: Cue collarless crop jacket $370 + Country Road drop necklace $44.90 + Mi Piaci "Franklin" dress sandal $260

DRESSED DOWN WITH: Just Jean "Amaze" trucker jacket $99.95 + Jacqui E scarf $39.95 + Merchant 1948 "Iris" trainers $139.90

2. On-Trend Culottes

These are still my favourite pants of the season! They suit almost everyone (you just need to try the right cut) and are the perfect pant to dress up or down. Here's how!

On-Trend Culottes

THE PANTS: Esprit flowing culottes with tie around waist $99.95

DRESSED UP WITH: Portmans "Victoria" ruffle top $69.95 + Merchant 1948 "Rhys" high heels

DRESSED DOWN WITH: Max "Brooklyn" stripe tee $49.99 + Mi Piaci "Selene' casual slide in silver $190

Both these items are great additions to your wardrobe just as they are, but having the styling skills to dress them up and down, means that you get even more out of these great pieces!

Until Next Time, Happy Shopping
