Shades of Yellow

Article by Kerry Finlay

Daffodils, lemons and dare I say sunshine? The arrival of Spring welcomes a fresh new colour to our wardrobes. Did you know yellow is the colour for happiness and friendship? I don’t know about you, but it sounds like a great way to kick the dreary doldrums of winter. However when I chat with my styling clients, this is often the colour they tell me they don’t wear, can’t wear or won’t wear but the trick is getting the shade right for you - let me tell you more.

Mustard

The ‘It’ Colour. Traditionally, mustard has been a hot pick for the cooler months but still going strong for Spring 18. The perfect shade of yellow for those with deep and warm tones, mustard works best mixed with earthier colours, natural elements and golden accessories.

1. Mineral Frida Midi Dress $129.99 - Farmers

 2. Meredith Mule $229.90 - Merchant 1948

3. Suzi Beaten Metal Necklace $39.99 - Max

Buttercup

Do you remember holding a small yellow flower under your chin as a child to see if you liked butter? This is the yellow for those who are light and warm in colouring. Buttercup yellow works beautifully with ivory, french navy and golden accents.

4.Sheer Gathered Blouse $179 - Country Road

5. Floral Lace Dress $275 - Cue,

6. Regan Pump $280 - Mi Piaci

Lemon

Pastel lemon is crisp and clean and ideal for those with soft and cool tones. Tonal dressing within the pastel palette works beautifully, otherwise pair your lemon back with soft white bottoms or chambray denim for a fresh, bring on summer vibe.

7.Linen Blend Shirt $39.99 - Glassons

8.Wysteria Mule $280 - Mi Piaci

9. Lemon Rind Trench Coat $109.99 - Glassons

Bright Yellow

Cool and deep tones can pull off the strength of bright, almost fluro yellow which looks quite striking teamed with black and white. You may feel safer wearing such a bright colour within a print or pattern.

10.Monochrome Floral Neckerchief $19.95 - Portmans

11.ONLY Banana Print Tee $29.99 - Farmers

12.Hamilton Beach Towel $74.90 - Country Road

Remember you can always play around with colour in smaller doses. Try a statement pair of earrings in your yellow of choice, introduce yellow accents in a printed scarf (or your beach towel!) and just have fun with it - this is what fashion is all about.
